The New Berlin High School Student Council is pleased to announce that we have selected two Parade Marshals for this year’s parade, Taylor and Liz Pensoneau.

Taylor and Liz have resided in New Berlin since 1999 when they built a home in Heritage Point Estates.  It was the small town atmosphere that attracted them to move here from Springfield. They loved the sense of community and the friendly people they had encountered since being married at Island Grove United Methodist Church in 1995.

Currently Taylor is a Certified Lay Speaker in the Methodist Church and also heads up the Island Grove Church Council.  Although they have not had children or grandchildren attending school at New Berlin, they have made it a practice to support school activities and sporting events. They have also served two years as “lunch buddies” at the New Berlin Elementary School.

Taylor retired as president of the Illinois Coal Association. He also is a former president of the Board of Trustees of the West Sangamon Public Library District, as well as past president of the Illinois Center for the Book and the Sangamon County Historical Society. He is the author of nine books, including the popular book, Brothers Notorious – The Sheltons. He is also the biographer of two former governors, Dan Walker and Richard Ogilvie.

Taylor is a huge fan of high school sports, and he and Liz have enjoyed attending Pretzel football and basketball games over the years, especially when their neighbors’ children were involved. He and Liz were also at Charleston when New Berlin won its first ever state track meet title a few years ago.

Liz is the retired editor of the former Outdoor Illinois magazine and, together with Taylor, owns and operates Downstate Publications. An author in her own right, she recently published a children’s book, How Stray Cats Taught Taylor and Lizzy About God’s Love.

Liz serves on the board of the New Berlin Area Community Development League and heads up its Beautification Committee.  She is extremely proud of the committee’s Hometown Pride Awards Program, now in its fourth year, and the newly erected Welcome to New Berlin mural, which was done in a partnership with the Village of New Berlin.

Liz and Taylor have hosted many children over the years at their neighborhood “gazebo parties” where the kids plan the games and menu, and Liz and Taylor provide the facility and the food.

When asked what they like best about New Berlin, they responded: “It is the people and the sense of family that they have encountered since living here.  We feel so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community, and are proud to call ourselves Pretzels.”

The citizens of New Berlin are very proud to have both of you! Thank you for your commitment to the community!

The parade will take place on Sunday, October 6th at 1:00 P.M. and will run from the Sangamon County Fairgrounds to NBHS.
